The Federal Government has expressed profound concern and solidarity with the families of the female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State’s Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

The government in a statement signed on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, declared its firm commitment to bringing the girls back safely.

President Bola Tinubu, emphasised that “protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State.”

The government condemned the “reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty.”

Security and intelligence agencies have been given strict directives to “locate, rescue, and safely return the students,” while ensuring those responsible face justice.

The Federal Government vowed, “We will not relent until this objective is achieved.”

The statement reassured Nigerians that strengthening internal security remains a top priority as the government recalibrates the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to prevent such attacks and respond swiftly.

Additionally, Nigeria is enhancing regional cooperation with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force to secure borders and disrupt criminal networks.

FG thereby urged the public to “remain calm and confident” as these efforts continue.

No fewer than 25 students were abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, on Monday morning, the Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the attack was carried out by heavily armed bandits, leaving one staff member dead and another injured.

Police added that the attack happened around 4:00 a.m. when the assailants stormed the school and engaged police officers on duty in a fierce gun battle.
