FG reveals date to launch STEMM Up Grant to back student innovation in tertiary institutions

The Federal Government has revealed its plans to introduce a new initiative known as the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Medical (STEMM) Up Grant (S-VCG) aimed at supporting student-driven innovation and entrepreneurship within Nigeria’s higher education institutions.
According to a statement shared on its official X channel, the program is set to launch on August 28 and will offer grants of up to N50 million to eligible undergraduate students studying in the STEMM areas. The initiative specifically focuses on students in their third year and above, encouraging innovations that have the potential for significant national impact and job creation.
The statement reads, “Formally known as the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Medical Sciences Student Venture Capital Grant, the program offers up to ₦50 million per project for eligible undergraduate innovators.
“Targeted at 300-level+ students in STEMM fields, the grant provides: Startup capital, Mentorship, Incubation support, Business development resources, All to build scalable, job-creating ventures.”
“This is more than a grant it’s a launchpad. We’re equipping students to solve real-world problems & lead Nigeria’s transformation,” said Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.
The programme according to the remark will be implemented in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BOI) for financial transparency and measurable impact. Stakeholders across academia and industry have endorsed it.
“The STEMM Up Grant aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, promoting inclusive education, youth empowerment & sustainable economic development. Nigeria is investing in its future from the classroom to the global stage,” the statement summed up.
