FIFA is poised to deliver its pivotal ruling on Monday, February 16, 2026, concerning the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) protest against DR Congo’s player eligibility in the 2026 World Cup African playoff final.
The NFF filed the complaint on December 15, 2025, claiming six DR Congo players who featured in the November 2025 tie—where Nigeria fell to penalties in Morocco—were ineligible.
The federation alleges these players engaged in improper or recent nationality switches that breach FIFA regulations.
Reports indicate FIFA has convened a meeting to tackle the issue alongside other agenda items, with the decision expected on or around February 16.
Super Eagles fans across Nigeria hold their breath, as a favorable outcome could overturn the result and secure the team’s spot in the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.
