The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has initiated a comprehensive audit across Nigeria to enforce fire safety compliance in both public and private structures.
This was made known in a statement signed on Wednesday by the National PRO / Head, Corporate Services, Federal Fire Service, DCF P. O. Abraham.
The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who inaugurated the Task Force on October 14, 2025, said the audit marks the Service’s “unwavering commitment to prevention, preparedness, and compliance enforcement under the National Fire Safety Code.”
This move follows the tragic Afri Tower fire incident and aims “to strengthen safety enforcement mechanisms and minimise the risk of future fire outbreaks.”
The nationwide exercise “will be replicated across all Federal Fire Service’s State Commands to ensure that every structure, public or private meets established safety standards.”
Adeyemi emphasised that “fire safety is a shared duty” and the audit is intended not as a punitive measure but “to promote a safer environment for all.”
The Federal Fire Service urges property owners and managers “to give their full support to the Task Force to ensure an efficient and transparent audit process.”
