At a prestigious Mid-term Assessment and Interactive Session held for beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) National Scholarship Programme (NASP), First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, emphasised not only financial support but character development in empowering young Nigerians.
The programme, launched in 2021, awarded scholarships to 47 tertiary students—one from each state and the Federal Capital Territory—granting each ₦1 million to support their academic journey.
Through a partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), scholars were also provided laptops to enhance their studies.
In her poignant address, the First Lady inspired the scholars saying, “Do not rely solely on the scholarship but actively pursue side hustles and small jobs that will support you during your studies and prepare you for life after graduation. There is always a beginning for everyone, and your humble starts will add to your experience and growth as future leaders.”
Distinguished attendees included the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, Governors’ Wives, the Director-General of NITDA, the Minister’s Wives Forum, and Commissioners of Education.
This scholarship initiative forms part of a broader educational financial support framework by the Federal Ministry of Education, which has disbursed over ₦10 billion in the last few years—covering bursaries in STEMM fields, scholarships for various academic levels, and support through NELFUND benefiting over 500,000 students.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa pledged continued collaboration, stating, “Together, with the leadership of the First Lady and the commitment of this administration, we are laying the foundation for a knowledge-driven future for Nigeria.”
