The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has planned to prosecute popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, after a viral video showed him live-streaming while driving, leading to a road crash.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed condemned the incident as part of a dangerous trend among celebrities and content creators.

“The incident serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” Mohammed stated in a Monday release signed by spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide.

The crash stemmed from Peller’s distracted driving during a live stream, which FRSC labeled a clear violation of traffic rules.

Mohammed directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to pursue charges for reckless driving, phone use while driving, and distracted driving.

He warned influencers of their responsibility, saying celebrities must act as “ambassadors of safety rather than symbols of recklessness,” given their sway over young Nigerians.

FRSC reiterated its zero-tolerance policy, with Mohammed emphasizing, “No social media content, online trend or momentary clout is worth a human life.”

The corps urged the public to report risky behaviours and called on entertainment guilds to promote road safety.
