No gain saying that the bedrock of good governance, and socio-political, economic development in any given State, is the public service; in other words, the quality and substance of the officials determine the service delivery and the ultimate success of any administration.
Salihu Aminu Usman Stands tall amongst his peers, unassuming, humble, loyal and committed to his statutory responsibilities, mandate and assignments as the substantive Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment who was meritoriously appointed from a large pool of the Nigerian Public Service, a man whose watch word is: “integrity and service”. A distinguished civil servant who does not wait for inducement to discharge his responsibilities, nor shy away from tedious assignments and tasks.
Indeed, Salihu Usman is a workaholic given sensitive nature of his official schedules, he worked meticulously long hours driving hard his subordinates. In his words “public service is a public trust, and we are on oath to serve”.
A man so passionate about knowledge and education, always striving to widen his frontiers of knowledge, in spite of his tight schedules he has currently bagged a Doctorate Degree (PhD), in management from his alma-mata the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto. In addition he holds a second class upper degree (2.1) in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Business Management from the same institution. This is in addition to a national diploma, and postgraduate diploma in business management obtained retrospectively. Salihu is a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, fellow of the Chattered Institute of Economists of Nigeria, fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chattered) as well as an Associate of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Nigeria, also fellow of the Institute of Treasury and Financial Administration and others.
Salihu had traversed many shores attending courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences both within and outside Nigeria. Born on the 5th day of May 1970 in Gwandu, Kebbi State, Salihu served in the unified local government service of Kebbi State diligently for sixteen (16) years, within which he rose meritoriously to the rank of a substantive director. In this context he transferred his service with an impressive portfolio from the State public service to the mainstream federal civil service in the pool of the office of Accountant General of the Federation in 2011.
Distinctively he had served at diverse ministries, departments and agencies, leaving his footprints until he was recently appointed meritoriously by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Substantive Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. A highly cerebral, detribalized and quintessential public servant that ranks amongst the best globally.
