Recovery operations have wrapped up at the site of a devastating gas tanker explosion at Ologuro Bus Stop in Sangotedo, with the affected road now fully reopened to traffic.
The incident, which occurred earlier today, reportedly claimed the life of the tipper truck driver, whose burnt remains was handed over to the Nigeria Police.
Both the damaged gas tanker and the tipper truck involved have been evacuated from the scene.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that the tanker’s contents were entirely consumed by the blaze.
Preliminary investigations point to over-speeding and reckless driving by the tipper driver as the cause.
One fatality was recorded, with two women sustaining injuries and receiving immediate medical care. The explosion also razed four roadside shops, causing property damage worth millions of naira.
Swift action by LASEMA’s Shark Unit and other emergency teams contained the fire, averting a larger disaster to nearby structures.
Authorities urged heavy-duty vehicle operators to strictly follow traffic rules to prevent future tragedies.
