The Guard Time Information (GTI) Human Rights Activists Nationwide have declared their full support for the naval officer, Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, currently involved in a land dispute with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

This was obtained from a statement GTI shared with our correspondent on Thursday.

At the meeting held on Wednesday, the Chairman of GTI, Bibi Oduku, emphasised that Lieutenant Yerima “was acting in the lawful discharge of his duties and did not, at any point, use insulting language toward the Minister.”

Oduku also urged the FCT Minister to “handle this matter with utmost discretion and avoid actions that may attract undue public attention.”

The group praised the Defence Minister for his dedication to upholding the officers’ rights.

GTI further called for direct dialogue between the FCT Minister and Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, to ensure an amicable resolution without public escalation.

GTI appealed to the public and social media users to “refrain from posting inflammatory content or engaging in actions that could exacerbate tensions,” emphasising that “peaceful resolution and adherence to due process remain the preferred approach.”
