The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), has inducted new Graduates and Associates at its 2024 induction ceremony.
During the 23rd induction ceremony in Lagos, 187 Graduates and 179 Associates were inducted into the institute.
Giving her welcome address, the Chairman of the Council, ICSAN, Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, FCIS, urged the new inductees to bear in mind that chartered secretaries are highly skilled professionals who are respected for the depth of their knowledge, competences, versatility, mastery and adeptness in a broad range of fields including law, accounting, finance, management, governance and secretarial practices.
She said, “For the category of Inductees who are being admitted as Graduates of ICSAN today, I congratulate you for having commenced a journey into a profession that is not only relevant today but which holds the prospects of continued relevance into the foreseeable future.
“I am sure you will look back in the years ahead with introspection and be glad you had made a wise decision in choosing to be Governance professionals through the ICSAN programme.
“I will advise that you continue to improve on your skills, knowledge, and competencies.
“For the Inductees being conferred with the Associate status, I felicitate with you for this remarkable achievement which has now made you a Chartered Secretary and Administrator.”
The ICSAN president said the Institute is empowered to admit various candidates into various cadres of membership of ICSAN by virtue of its enabling Act, (the ICSAN Act Cap. I13 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004) after such candidates must have undergone prescribed length of training in addition to acquiring requisite practical experience.
“In our own case, you will attest to it that our Professional Qualifying Programme is rigorous and exerting, having been based on a very expansive and broad-based syllabus to get the students prepared for the ever-changing requirements, challenges and dynamics of the modern work place,” she said.
Giving a brief introduction of ICSAN, she noted that it is a leading, statutorily established professional body, dedicated to enhancing the status and practice of Corporate Governance and Public Administration. It is the only professional body authorized in Nigeria to conduct the examinations leading to the qualification as Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Ekundayo said, “Although ICSAN started in Nigeria in 1944 as an Associate of the international body based in Britain, it elected its first president in 1966 that was about 57 years ago. ICSAN became Chartered by Decree 19 of 1991 (Now Act CAP I13 LFN 2004.
“ICSAN is a member of the Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA), a global organisation originally registered in Geneva, but now in Hong Kong, and dedicated to developing the study / practice of Secretaryship and Administration to improve professional standards, the quality of governance practice and organizational performance. The Association is the global voice of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals.”
