The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has applauded the Defense and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for a pioneering initiative to provide full scholarships to the children of fallen heroes.

This was revealed in a statement obtained from the Force Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday.

The commendation was delivered during a courtesy visit by DEPOWA members to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Oghogho Musa, DEPOWA President, explained that the scholarship program will start with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026. She highlighted that the scholarship “will benefit children of fallen heroes and also bolster national cohesion by admitting children from surrounding communities.”

Musa also expressed gratitude to the IGP, praising the sacrifices of police officers in fighting violent crimes and supporting international peacekeeping missions.

In response, IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to “protecting life and property, maintaining public order, and safeguarding democracy.” He stressed that the NPF “remains resolute in fulfilling its constitutional mandate while drawing strength from the support of stakeholders such as DEPOWA.”
