The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has taken a major leap in the ongoing battle against violent crimes nationwide by equipping the Nigeria Police Force’s Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) with state-of-the-art technological devices and applications.
This strategic move according to a statement on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, is aimed at enhancing the Force’s capabilities in crime detection, prevention, and the swift apprehension of criminals.
In addition to upgrading technology, the IGP has mandated comprehensive training programs for TIU personnel to align their skills with global intelligence standards.
These rigorous sessions are designed to “equip them with the prerequisite knowledge to operate the newly deployed technologies,” ensuring the Force stays responsive to ever-evolving criminal tactics.
Highlighting the significance of these measures, the IGP noted the evolving nature of criminal activities both globally and locally, saying, “The continuous change in crime dynamics globally and within Nigeria informs the timely and consistent efforts at improving and upscaling police crime fighting approach to intelligence and technology driven.”
Recent successes underscore the effectiveness of this intelligence-led approach, including the arrest of a notorious arms peddling gang operating across Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States, alongside numerous other arrests in recent weeks credited to enhanced intelligence capabilities.
IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to public safety, stating, “The Inspector-General of Police therefore reaffirms the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership to emplacing measures to prevent crimes and criminality across the country while assuring Nigerians of robust response to emerging security threats.”
This initiative signals a clear message that the Nigeria Police Force is adapting to modern crime challenges by integrating advanced technology with skilled personnel to protect citizens effectively.
