The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported on Monday that Nigeria’s headline inflation rate dipped marginally to 15.06% year-on-year in February 2026, down from 15.10% in January, marking a continued slowdown from peaks above 26% in early 2025 following CPI rebasing.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed to 130.0 in February, up 2.6 points from January’s 127.4, signaling persistent price pressures.
NBS detailed, “On a month-on-month basis, the Headline inflation rate in February 2026 was 2.01%, which was 4.89% higher than the rate recorded in January 2026 (-2.88%).
“This means that in February 2026, the rate of increase in the average price level was higher than the rate of increase in the average price level in January 2026.”
Food inflation drove much of the momentum, surging 4.69% month-on-month, while core inflation (excluding food and energy) rose 0.89%.
Urban areas felt the pinch more acutely, with inflation at 15.53% year-on-year compared to 13.93% in rural regions, highlighting disparities fueled by elevated food costs and economic strains.
