Operators in the insurance industry, on Wednesday, gathered at the Insurers House of the Nigerian Insurance Association in Lagos, to celebrate the landmark achievements of the outgoing 51st President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mr. Edwin Igbiti.

At the valedictory service well attended by operators in the industry, which was organized to honour Igbiti, the operators extolled his virtues, and urged him to continue to make positive impacts.

Past President of CIIN and Chairman of the Occasion, Sir Ogala Osoka, said, “To this end, his tenure witnessed the strengthening of several activities of the Institute including reaching out to the younger generation thereby growing awareness of the insurance profession in our tertiary institutions. Through Mr. Igbiti’s initiative, the Institute was able to open up new frontiers in Canada, United States and United Kingdom.

“In addition, courses were introduced for Loss Adjusting and Broking. In all, he led the Council in championing diversity and inclusiveness, recognizing the need to uphold professional standards in insurance practices. President Edwin F. Igbiti, FIIN, during his tenure has successfully sustained the dreams of our founding members in fostering insurance education and training as a bedrock for the future development and healthy growth of insurance in Nigeria.

“Today, I join the entire insurance industry in celebrating our out-going President, not only for a successful tenure but also enabling a new chapter that ensures a stable professional and innovative insurance industry. Thank you Mr. Edwin Friday Igbiti, FIIN, for your services and leadership. You have made your mark and we can only wish you the best in your future endeavours.”

Former Managing Director, Lasaco Assurance Plc, Mr. Olusola Ladipo-Ajayi, also lauded Igbiti for his achievements, and urged him to continue to make positive impacts going forward.

While giving his valedictory speech, Igbiti thanked his family, regulator and operators in the insurance industry, and all stakeholders.

He said, “The theme of my Presidency was ‘Building a Sustainable Legacy’. A theme that was borne out of the need to maintain a continuity plan to build on and sustain the works of past presidents of the Institute.

“This guaranteed that even in the face of global uncertainties, the Institute continued to meet the needs and aspirations of its members and also sustained a stronger strength of professionalism and ethical standards in the insurance industry. The sustainable legacy cuts across revamping the digital operations of the Institute, which was successfully executed.

Against this backdrop, we were able to unlock the potential of this approach by focusing on a three-point agenda.”

He mentioned the three-point agenda to be: Digital reinforcement of Institute’s operations; Insurance awareness for all grassroot, youths and insuring public; and infrastructural and personal development.
