Lionel Messi’s hamstring injury has derailed Inter Miami’s preseason plans, leading to the postponement of their final tune-up match in Puerto Rico against the island’s national team.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner suffered the muscle strain during Inter Miami’s previous preseason outing, casting doubt on his availability for the MLS regular season opener against LAFC on February 22.
Messi was seen limping off the pitch and did not return, prompting immediate medical attention.
Club officials confirmed the postponement late Thursday, prioritising Messi’s recovery ahead of the grueling MLS campaign.
“Lionel’s health comes first,” said Inter Miami coach Tata Martino.
“We’re adjusting our schedule to ensure he’s ready for the season ahead.”
