The Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, has charged capital market journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism as Nigeria transitions into a new regulatory era under the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025.
Speaking at the 2025 workshop of the Capital Market Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CAMCAN), Kwairanga, who served as Chairman of the Occasion, said the theme, “Regulatory Reforms: ISA 2025 and Nigeria’s Investment Climate,” reflects a pivotal moment for the nation’s financial markets.
He noted that the reforms captured in ISA 2025 represent more than regulatory updates, describing them as “foundational shifts designed to modernize our capital market architecture, attract deeper pools of capital, and position Nigeria as a top-tier investment destination.”
Kwairanga also highlighted the importance of deliberate communication in the success of these reforms, insisting that journalists remain a critical bridge between policy makers, market operators and the investing public.
“In a world increasingly challenged by misinformation, your role in delivering timely, factual, and contextual reporting is more vital than ever,” he said.
The NGX Chairman emphasized the Group’s commitment to supporting the new regulatory direction, citing NGX Invest, the Exchange’s digital platform for public offers and rights issues, as part of efforts to democratize investing, deepen transparency and enhance primary market efficiency.
According to him, NGX Invest has already enabled millions of investors to participate directly in capital raising activities from their devices, aligning with ISA 2025’s focus on digital inclusion, efficiency and stronger investor protection.
Kwairanga urged the media to continue informing the public accurately about reforms and market developments to sustain investor confidence and foster economic growth.
He commended CAMCAN for its consistency in enhancing capital market literacy and facilitating stakeholder engagement.
“As conversations unfold today, I encourage all participants to approach this workshop with a spirit of collaboration and foresight,” he said. “The opportunities offered by ISA 2025 will be maximized when regulators, operators, investors and the media work in alignment.”
