The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong rebuttal against persistent rumours that candidates are assigned to examination centres outside their selected towns, calling such claims “erroneous, malicious and aimed solely at tarnishing the Board’s reputation.”
In a statement released by the JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board emphasised, “At the time of registration, candidates have the right to select their preferred examination town. JAMB subsequently assigns them to a centre within that chosen town.
“The baseless assertion that candidates are placed in towns different from their selections is erroneous, malicious and aimed solely at tarnishing the Board’s reputation. It never happens.”
To underscore its confidence, JAMB is offering a financial reward to anyone who can provide credible proof-within 96 hours-of any candidate being posted outside their selected town, stressing that such evidence must be submitted to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for independent verification.
“For transparency and not ‘being a judge in one’s case,’ such proof should within the next 96 hours be sent to the FCCPC WhatsApp Number; 08056003030 so that the umpire can ensure the reward is delivered or the Board is once and for all exonerated from the recurring campaign of calumny,” Benjamin stated.
JAMB also drew a parallel to air travel, urging parents and candidates to understand the need for early arrival at CBT centres for verification, just as airlines require early check-in.
“Anyone who finds no fault in airlines requesting air-travellers to arrive at the airport 2 hours before the departure time should find no fault in encouraging candidates to arrive at the CBT centres, 90 minutes before commencement of examination for preliminary verification,” said the board.
The board further cautioned against superstitious beliefs, referencing a candidate who refused to answer exam questions, waiting for a “miraculous intervention” as instructed by her grandfather.
“Candidates are advised against superstitious and baseless dream of reaping where they did not sow,” JAMB urged.
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and transparency, urging the public to trust that the agency acts in the best interest of all candidates.
