The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked recent reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry described the claims as “false” and “baseless.”
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, stressed, “At no point did the Ministry issue or authorise any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions.”
Reaffirming JAMB’s role, the statement declared, “JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.”
Alausa reassured the public of the Ministry’s “unwavering collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to uphold transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system.”
The Ministry also issued a caution to media outlets, urging them to “verify information from official sources before publication to avoid misleading the public and spreading misinformation capable of causing unnecessary confusion within the education sector.”
Prospective students, parents, and institutions are advised to rely solely on official communications from the Ministry and JAMB for accurate and updated information.
The Ministry concluded by underscoring that “there has been no change in the existing role of JAMB which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.”
