Mensah Omolola, popularly known as Aunty Esther on X (formerly Twitter) and a Jehovah’s Witness cancer patient, has ignited controversy after refusing a blood transfusion during her treatment due to her religious beliefs, even though public donations exceeding N30 million were raised to support her care.
Omolola shared an update about her condition, expressing gratitude for the contributions while revealing that her cancer affected only her breast and armpit areas.
She wrote, “Good morning Good afternoon Good evening. I know say a lot of people want update… Doc tell @auntymuse_, myself and my husband the results. Nah my breast and armpit the cancer dey.”
The fundraising was led by media personality Wisdom Obi-Dickson (@Wizarab10) who confirmed that over N30.7 million had been collected by December 1st, 2025.
However, tension arose when Obi-Dickson well known as Sir Dickson disclosed a conflict between Omolola’s religious faith and medical advice.
Sir Dickson tweeted the Jehovah’s Witness church threatened to “disfellowship” her if she accepted a blood transfusion.
He explained the medical options: “She was offered the option of blood transfusion before she can begin chemo, but she declined due to her faith. She is a Jehovah’s witness and thus, opting for other alternatives. Though it will take longer and cost more, we have to respect her religious beliefs.”
He added, “Her church people have said she would be disfellowshipped if she takes the blood transfusion. Her family have said whatever happens to her, is the will of God, while fighting against blood transfusion… Dr Sina has spoken with care and medical experience, and all of that fell on deaf ears.”
Another close supporter, @AUNTYMUSE_, affirmed Omolola’s steadfastness: “She @MensahOmolola has always been clear about her stand from day 1 way before the contribution… It was her decision… even while filling the form for the hospital which I indicated her church.”
@AUNTYMUSE_ emphasised, “The doctor herself is aware of this and encourages us to stay strong with her in this time… We were given two options and @MensahOmolola chose the one she wanted. And the one she wanted can also do the job.”
