In a significant move to enhance agricultural productivity, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, has distributed 600 bags of fertilizer across Delta State’s three senatorial districts.
The initiative according to a statement on Thursday by the minister’s spokesperson, Tunde Moshood, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at uplifting local farmers and promoting food security.
Targeting registered cooperatives, the distribution is expected to bolster crop yields and reduce reliance on imports.
Keyamo while speaking on the initiative emphasised the government’s commitment to empowering farmers as vital for economic progress and job creation, reiterating that agriculture remains crucial for Nigeria’s future prosperity.
He said, “Our farmers are the backbone of this country, and it is imperative that they receive the support needed to enhance their productivity. This fertilizer distribution is part of a broader effort to strengthen our agricultural value chain and ensure food security for all Nigerians.”
Mashood noted that the fertilizer distribution is expected to significantly boost the output of local farmers, especially as the planting season continues.
“Beneficiaries across the senatorial districts expressed gratitude, noting that this support comes at a crucial time to increase harvests and reduce dependency on expensive imports. The initiative is also anticipated to promote the cultivation of high-demand crops, reduce production costs for farmers, and contribute to the stability of food prices within the region.
“This distribution is just one of the many initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to create a robust and diversified economy through strategic partnerships and resource allocation. The government plans to continue empowering communities by providing the necessary inputs and resources to farmers nationwide,” the statement reads partly.
However, Keyamo reiterated his dedication to ensuring that the agriculture sector, alongside aviation, is given the attention and resources it deserves.
“Agriculture and aviation might seem worlds apart, but they are both critical to our national economy. We’re working to ensure that every sector is strengthened for the benefit of all Nigerians,” Keyamo added.
