Lagos cracks down on illegal waste dumping, apprehend six

Lagos is intensifying efforts to combat illegal waste disposal, announcing the recent arrest of six individuals during an overnight surveillance operation in the Meiran axis.

The LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team carried out the raid, resulting in the detention of the suspects who could not justify their waste disposal practices.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated, “In the ongoing initiative to eliminate illegal waste dumping activities across the state, the LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team apprehended another six individuals in Meiran axis during an overnight surveillance operation that continued into the morning of November 20, 2025.”

Following the arrests, the suspects were thoroughly investigated to uncover the reasons behind their illegal dumping activities.

None of the apprehended persons could produce evidence of PSP registration or demonstrate ownership of waste storage facilities at their homes.

All suspects were transferred to LAWMA’s legal team at the Oshodi Taskforce office for further legal proceedings.

The identities of the individuals detained are: Patience Orobatan, 72, Felicia Aja, 40, Sheriff Ogundeji, 20, Titilayo Durorike, 40, Adeola Ononuga, 52, and Adu Bola, 60.
