Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced on Monday that the city will make history by hosting the world’s all-electric powerboat championship, the E1 Series, from October 3 to 5.

This marks the first time the African continent will be the stage for this cutting-edge, sustainable sporting event.
In a video posted on X, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the event as “a demonstration of innovation and progress, showing how sport can inspire sustainable solutions for the future.”
He further highlighted it as “a celebration of the creativity and resilience that define our people,” emphasising Lagos’s readiness to lead on the global stage.
The E1 Lagos Grand Prix will showcase the city as “welcoming, dynamic, and determined to embrace the future with confidence,” offering a unique opportunity for both Lagos and Africa to shine internationally.
Sanwo-Olu warmly invited the public to participate, saying, “I extend a warm invitation to you to be part of this historic moment.”
