Lagos State Government has announced the revival of its popular monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to kick off on April 25, 2026, following a period of suspension.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared the update in a statement on Saturday, emphasising its importance for public health and flood prevention.

He wrote, “I am pleased to inform all Lagosians that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will resume effective Saturday, 25th April 2026, holding on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30AM to 8:30 AM.”

Wahab urged residents to participate actively, stating, “During this period, residents are enjoined to clean their surroundings, clear drainage channels in their frontages, and dispose of waste properly as a civic responsibility.

“This exercise is a collective responsibility and a vital part of our commitment to a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient Lagos.”

The initiative will be strictly enforced by the Lagos State Government, with the commissioner adding, “And it shall be backed with the full enforcement weight of the Lagos State Government.”

The exercise, a longstanding tradition in Nigeria’s commercial hub, aims to foster civic duty amid ongoing urban challenges like waste management and seasonal flooding.
