Lagos seals public toilet over environmental violations

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed off a public toilet facility on Kakawa Street, Lagos Island, over hazardous sanitary conditions and the illegal discharge of untreated wastewater into public drains.
The Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement, made it known that the enforcement act was carried out on Sunday, following the discovery of the unsafe facility and the illegal disposal of wastewater.
Wahab described the act as an environmental nuisance, degradation and threat to huma life and health.
He wrote, “The Lagos State Waste Water Management Office #lswmomedia on Sunday 6th April 2025, sealed-off a public toilet on Kakawa Street, Lagos Island, Lagos, over unsafe toilet environment and deliberate discharge of untreated wastewater into the public drains. These are acts of environmental nuisance, pollution, degradation and endangering of human life & health.”
