Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has raised concerns over the proliferation of unapproved structures along coastal corridors, highlighting their damaging impact on the environment and public health.
In a statement on X, Wahab explained that these illegal constructions not only degrade natural surroundings but also “encourage indiscriminate waste disposal and unhealthy practices along our coastal corridors.”

He emphasised the government’s firm stance, saying, “These structures not only deface the environment but also encourage indiscriminate waste disposal and unhealthy practices along our coastal corridors. As a government, we cannot allow such activities to continue unchecked.”
Wahab reaffirmed the commitment to environmental protection, “We remain committed to restoring order, protecting our waterfronts, and ensuring that public spaces are used responsibly and in line with environmental laws.”
