Late Olubadan buried with full military honours in Ibadan

Late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, was laid to rest on August 8, 2025, at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Ibadan.
The late monarch, a retired Major of the Nigerian Army, was buried with full military honours in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation.
The late monarch was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Lieutenant on July 29, 1970, and served in the Corps of Engineers.
He rose through the ranks to become a Major on April 30, 1973, before voluntarily retiring on October 1, 1979.
During his military career, he held several key appointments, including Troops Commander at the 2 Field Engineer Regiment and Commanding Officer of the 2 Engineer Construction Regiment, among others.
Olakulehin ascended to the throne as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
The funeral ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, other government officials, and traditional rulers.
Also in attendance were the General Officer Commanding 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General OG Onubogu, heads of other security agencies, and a host of military personnel, family members, and sympathisers.
