LAWMA trains highway sweepers on safety, proper use of PPE

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has conducted a health and safety training exercise for highway sweepers to enhance their skills and efficiency.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin said during the training, held along the Ikate–Elegushi corridor of the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Friday, that the Authority was ever committed to the safety and wellbeing of its frontline sanitation workers.
A statement from the Director, Public Affairs, LAWMA, Mukaila Sanusi, today said the training focused on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, and safety boots, as well as the safe handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
According to Dr. Gbadegesin, the exercise formed part of a broader strategy to strengthen safety protocols and ensure that highway sweepers were adequately equipped and trained to carry out their duties in a safe and professional manner.
He emphasised that frontline sanitation workers operated in challenging environments and must be provided with the right knowledge, tools, and protective gear to minimise occupational risks and enhance productivity.
According to him, the training also reinforced LAWMA’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards while prioritising the health and safety of personnel responsible for keeping Lagos roads clean.
The Managing Director added that the Authority would continue to invest in regular capacity-building programmes and safety awareness initiatives to sustain a culture of safety across its operations.
He commended the dedication of the highway sweepers and encouraged them to consistently adhere to safety guidelines and proper use of protective equipment in the discharge of their duties.
