Barcelona’s star striker Robert Lewandowski is set to make a stunning sacrifice, reportedly offering to slash his hefty wages by up to 50% to extend his contract beyond June 2026.
The 36-year-old Polish forward, who joined from Bayern Munich in 2022, has been a goal machine for the Catalan giants, netting 109 strikes in 163 appearances—including eight already this season.
Despite fitness niggles and the club’s shift toward younger forwards, head coach Hansi Flick holds him in high regard.
“Lewandowski’s work ethic, unpredictability, and influence in the dressing room are invaluable,” Flick has emphasised.
Barça currently top La Liga with an impressive 13 wins from 16 matches, but crippling financial woes dictate every move.
Lewandowski’s current salary—rumored between €20 million and €32 million annually—strains the budget severely, prompting this dramatic gesture of loyalty from the veteran.
Sources close to the negotiations reveal: “The Polish forward is willing to slash his salary by up to 50 percent to remain at Camp Nou,” a move aimed at easing the club’s economic pressures while securing his future.
Club officials now face a pivotal choice: balancing Lewandowski’s proven experience against a youth-driven strategy.
Formal talks are slated for the coming weeks to assess the long-term sporting and financial fallout.
