The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party unanimously approved the conduct of State, Local Government, and Ward Congresses, to be scheduled by the National Working Committee (NWC) in accordance with the party’s Constitution and relevant laws.

Reaffirming the party’s internal unity in the NEC meeting that was held on Monday, the party’s NEC “reimposes confidence in the leadership of Barr. Julius Abure led National Working Committee” and urged all party members to “continue to respect the leadership of the party and obey its lawful directives.”

The NEC commended Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s running mate in the last general election, for his loyalty to the party leadership and for officially declaring his intention to contest in the 2027 general election.

On the political front, the NEC decisively stated that the Labour Party “will not be part of any coalition for the 2027 general election.”

The committee emphasised that “the coalition of 2023 is bigger than any other coalition” and expressed the party’s intention to “rebuild, reconcile, and consolidate the gains of the 2023 general election.”

The NEC highlighted the Labour Party’s unique identity, noting it is “distinct in terms of its ideology, programs, philosophy, and manifestos, which has the answers to the socio-economic challenges in Nigeria.”

Consequently, the party affirmed it “cannot be tempted by joining any politically spent forces that have hitherto squandered the resources and opportunity of the Nation.”
