The founder of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has pledged a substantial donation of N1.5 billion to assist victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State.
This announcement was made during his visit to the affected areas, where he expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.
The donation comprises N1 billion directed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for collaboration with the Borno State government, alongside an additional N500 million from the Aliko Dangote Foundation. This financial support aims to facilitate immediate relief efforts for those impacted by the disaster, which has displaced approximately one million people in the region.
He said, “I just want to clarify, we have this flood committee. NEMA wrote us a letter; so we sat down and approved N1 billion to NEMA to work with the Borno State government.
“On top of that, the Aliko Dangote Foundation will put an additional N500 million so that’s N1.5 billion. Thank you.”
In addition to Dangote’s donation, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State also announced plans to provide relief materials to the flood victims, further demonstrating solidarity in the face of this humanitarian crisis.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum expressed gratitude for Dangote’s generous contribution, highlighting his ongoing commitment to supporting the people of Borno.
“Not everyone that has money has the heart to give, Aliko Dangote has been helping our people, this is not the first time. I pray that Allah will reward you with Aljannah.”
“I would like to thank my brother, Gov Abdullahi Sule, who came along with Aliko Dangote to visit us at this trying moment,” Zulum said.
