Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde’s administration has cleared a massive N25 billion backlog of gratuities owed to retirees, marking a major win for workers’ welfare in the state.
In a video announcement, Makinde revealed the breakthrough and pledged ongoing support.
“We have cleared a N25 billion backlog of gratuities owed to retirees,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to pensioners.
To prevent future delays, the governor approved N3 billion monthly for gratuity payments, aiming for a clean slate by the end of his tenure on May 29, 2027.
“I have approved the release of N3 billion monthly for the payment of gratuities,” Makinde said, emphasising financial discipline.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to prioritize retiree welfare.
“The government remains committed to clearing all pending entitlements systematically,” he assured, adding that “the monthly allocation would guarantee that no backlog remains before the conclusion of his administration.”
