In a thrilling nine-goal spectacle at Old Trafford, Manchester United overturned a 4-2 deficit in extra time to defeat Lyon 5-4 on the night and 7-6 on aggregate, securing their place in the Europa League semifinals.
United had taken a 2-0 lead by halftime but conceded twice late in the second half to force extra time against a ten-man Lyon side.
However, despite Lyon scoring twice more in extra time to lead 6-4 on aggregate, late goals from Bruno Fernandes (penalty), Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire sealed a comeback for the ages.
This victory keeps United’s hopes alive for European football next season and a potential Europa League title, their best route to the Champions League.
