The Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has revealed that approximately 98% of public and private sector employees will pay less or no Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) or personal income tax starting January 2026 under new tax laws.
Oyedele shared the update on Saturday via X (formerly Twitter), urging Nigerians to “know the facts” and “do the math” rather than succumb to fear.
He provided a link to an online calculator at fiscalreforms.ng/index.php/pit-… where individuals can compare their tax liabilities under the old and new regimes.
The reforms aim to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, reduce burdens on low- and middle-income earners, and boost compliance.
“Most workers will pay less tax from January 2026,” Oyedele emphasised, using the hashtags #FactNotFear, #TaxReforms, and #Nigeria to counter misinformation.
This development comes amid ongoing fiscal reforms pushed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, promising broader economic relief as the country grapples with inflation and cost-of-living pressures.
