A woman, identified as Blessing Jonathan, has been arrested for allegedly throwing her 10-month-old baby, Prevail, into a river in Aviara, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident, which occurred on October 31, was reportedly prompted by Blessing’s anger after being taunted and insulted by her friends.
She claimed that her friends and other women mocked her for having a “fatherless child,” leading her to throw the baby into the river in a fit of rage.
This was revealed by the Delta State Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe.
Edafe said the missing child was not reported until early December, when news spread about a floating corpse. Upon recovery, it was confirmed to be the remains of the missing child.
In her confession, Blessing expressed regret, stating she was unsure why she committed the act but admitted she “misses” her baby.
However, the police stated that the victim will be charged in court upon the conclusion of their investigation.
