The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully concluded the Initial Bush Camp Exercise for the Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 45/2024 at the Military Training Centre, Kaduna, held from 29 September to 4 October 2025.
The exercise tested recruits’ ability to apply classroom knowledge in realistic combat scenarios, preparing them for counter-insurgency operations.
In a statement on Sunday, the NAF said, “The exercise provided the recruits with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from classroom lessons in realistic combat settings, relevant for counter-insurgency operations.”
The event climaxed with a demanding 20-kilometre inter-squadron cross country competition, which the C-130 Squadron won, highlighting endurance, teamwork, and resilience.
Recruits underwent rigorous practical training including day and night navigation, patrols, ambush operations, and tactical manoeuvres such as tent striking—a critical skill for rapid camp dismantling without leaving traces.
These drills ensured the recruits demonstrated “the discipline, adaptability, and combat readiness required to function in dynamic operational environments.”
Air Commodore Mohammed Lawal, MTC Commandant, praised the recruits, saying, “The endurance, discipline, and readiness to serve as professionals shown during the exercise are commendable.”
He also underscored the importance of “vital inter-agency collaboration with the 1 Division Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and the Federal Road Safety Corps” in making the exercise a success.
The NAF affirmed that the exercise reflects its “unwavering commitment to training, operational readiness, and professionalism” aligned with Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar’s focus on Deliberate Training and Mission-Oriented Force Development.
