NAFDAC cracks down on illegal alcohol factory in Lagos‬

‪The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has uncovered an illegal alcohol factory producing various alcoholic beverages operating on Lagos Island. ‬

‪In a statement Dailyeconomy obtained from NAFDAC on Friday, goods worth an estimated N200 million were seized from the facility during the enforcement operation.

The operative according to the remark discovered after a thorough investigation that several packing stores and rooms in the Oke-Arin market had been converted into makeshift factories where different brands of alcoholic drinks were being produced, packaged, and distributed in the open market.

The statement enunciates, “NAFDAC enforcement officers acting on intelligence reports, have uncovered an illegal facility producing various alcoholic beverages in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State. After thorough surveillance, the officers discovered that several packing stores and rooms in the Oke-Arin market had been converted into makeshift factories where different brands of alcoholic drinks were being produced, packaged, and distributed in the open market.

“During the raid, over 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and already packaged drinks were seized, along with a mini plastic mixing tank, an improvised filter, and various packaging materials. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.

“NAFDAC has estimated the street value of the seized items at N200 million and is urging the public to remain vigilant, especially when purchasing alcoholic beverages.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution upon its conclusion.”

However, Dailyeconomy on July 20 reported that NAFDAC and the National Counter-Terrorism Centre renewed their commitment to combat the menace of drug abuse, misuse of chemicals, and alcoholism, which have been traced as major contributors to acts of terrorism.
