The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has taken decisive action against an illegal sachet water manufacturer located adjacent to a polluted canal in Number 89, Marine Road, Oluwole Market Waterside, Apapa, Lagos State.

The operation is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to ensure public health and safety in food and beverage production.

During the crackdown, NAFDAC officials according to a statement made available for Dailyeconomy discovered that the factory was operating without proper registration and was producing water under unsanitary conditions.

The agency dismantled the factory’s equipment, seized various production materials and sachet water worth N1 million, as revealed in the statement.

The statement reads, “NAFDAC recently shut down an illegal water factory in Apapa, where counterfeited, adulterated, and unhygienic sachet water was being produced. The factory, located at No. 89 Marine Road, Oluwole Market Waterside, was discovered during an operation by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.

“The factory’s address was entirely different from the one on the already produced counterfeited sachet water brands. The operation revealed that thousands of bags of counterfeit sachet water, produced in a filthy environment beside a dirty canal, was ready for distribution. During the raid, over 2,500 bags of sachet water were confiscated and the remaining stock was destroyed on-site.

“The illegal factory was sealed, and all production equipment was dismantled and evacuated. NAFDAC has estimated the street value of the seized water to be over ₦1 million.”

NAFDAC urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to food and beverage production.
