The National Assembly has officially unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, marking a significant step toward her resumption of legislative duties.

The unsealing took place on Tuesday under the supervision of Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, who declared, “To unseal Senator Natasha Akpoti’s office, I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office,” before unlocking the door that had been sealed for six months.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, sparked widespread reactions.

Many civil society organisations and opposition politicians condemned the Senate’s action.

The Kogi lawmaker challenged her suspension in court after alleging it was connected to a petition accusing Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment — a charge the Senate dismissed.

Although her first attempt to resume legislative duties after taking the matter to court was unsuccessful, the senator declared her intent to return this September after serving out the six-month suspension.

Two weeks ago, she officially communicated this to the Senate.

In response, the Senate acknowledged her letter but stated, “The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption.”

They also emphasised that her suspension would only be reviewed following the Court of Appeal’s decision.
