The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved ₦100 billion, pending final ratification by President Bola Tinubu, for the rehabilitation of police and security agencies’ training institutions across Nigeria.
This decision according to a statement obtained on Wednesday from Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications (Office of The Vice President), follows recommendations by an ad hoc committee tasked with assessing the condition of these facilities nationwide.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, chair of the committee, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stressing that “most of the training institutions are in dire condition.”
Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the government’s commitment and urged state governors to ensure reforms produce “clear, measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians.”
He emphasised that “our task is not to admire problems, but to solve them” and that governance should be “defined by tangible outcomes in communities across the country.”
In addition to the rehabilitation fund, NEC approved ₦2.6 billion for consultancy services related to the project.
The Council also received updates on Nigeria’s polio eradication progress, noting a 39% reduction in circulating variant poliovirus type 2 cases this year, and agreed on further vaccination campaigns.
Additionally, NEC endorsed the government’s plan to settle ₦185 billion owed to gas producers to boost domestic gas supply, highlighting this as critical to Nigeria’s energy security.
This meeting marks NEC’s 154th session, held virtually on December 3, 2025.
