NELFUND confirms no provision for postgraduate loan

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund has officially confirmed that there is no provision for postgraduate loans under its current scheme.

This clarification comes as many students expressed interest in financial support for their advanced studies, which made a netizen ask on Saturday via X (formally Twitter) if there would be provision for postgraduate in the ongoing scheme.

“Dear @NELFUND is there any plan to incorporate

POSTGRADUATE students into this scheme?” the netizen questioned.

Reacting to the question, NELFUND stated that there is no provision for advanced studies, stressing that their objective is to ensure Nigerians have the opportunity to earn their first degree.

The reply reads, “For now, NELFUND does not provide loans for postgraduate students. Let’s ensure others have the opportunity to earn their first degree, just like you did.”

Meanwhile, the fund is primarily aimed at assisting undergraduate students in public tertiary institutions, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder access to education for those in need.

However, NELFUND’s eligibility criteria specifically require applicants to possess a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board number, a requirement that postgraduate students do not meet, as they do not gain admission through JAMB.

Dailyeconomy on July 18 reported that President Bola Tinubu launched the Nigeria Education Loan Fund at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
