The National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria has assessed a case of armed banditry in Maradun and Bakura Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
The head of NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office, Aliyu Kafindangi, led a team to evaluate the dire situation of those displaced by armed banditry in the State.
This was revealed in a statement Dailyeconomy obtained from NEMA on Thursday.
It was gathered that hundreds of households across Maradun and Bakura Local Government Areas have fled brutal attacks, seeking refuge with relatives or constructing makeshift shelters.
Many are now living in public schools as ongoing violence disrupts their lives and livelihoods.
The statement reads, “Head of NEMA Sokoto Operations Office SOO, Mr. Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi led a team for assessment of the situation of persons affected by armed Banditry in Zamfara State.
“Hundreds of households from communities across Maradun and Bakura Local Government Areas of Zamfara State have been displaced by armed bandits. The bandits brutally attack villages to kidnap members of the communities to ask for ransom from villagers who are already impoverished due to these recurring attacks.
“Members of the affected villages had to run for their lives to take refuge with families and friends in Maradun and Bakura towns which are the Local Government headquarters.
Others made makeshift tents of grass to sustain their lives in these towns, while some are taking shelter in Public schools.”
The humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, overwhelming local communities already struggling with poverty and insecurity.
