NEMA flags off relief distribution for fire victims in Enugu

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched direct distribution of relief materials to victims of multiple fire outbreaks in Ugwuaji, Ogbete, and Ngwo communities within the Enugu North/South Federal Constituency.
The initiative, flagged off on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, by NEMA’s Enugu Operations Office, followed rapid assessments confirming significant losses of property, goods, and livelihoods for affected households.
NEMA collaborated with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society to ensure transparency and broad coverage.
Speaking on behalf of the Head of Operations, Shantel Chukwu expressed the Federal Government’s sympathy, “Mrs. Shantel Chukwu conveyed the sympathy of the Federal Government and the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the victims over the unfortunate fire incidents that led to extensive losses. She encouraged the beneficiaries to remain hopeful and assured them that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting victims of disasters.”
Chimobi Sam Atu, the Member representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, praised the swift action, “He expressed appreciation to NEMA, particularly the Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for the Agency’s prompt response and timely intervention. He noted that NEMA’s support provided renewed relief and encouragement to victims at a critical time when many had lost hope of recovery.”
