Officers from the Lagos Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) actively participated in a crucial stakeholders’ engagement on Tuesday, December 16, in Imosan Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Alimosho Local Government Area.
Organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (LSMEMR), the meeting focused on protecting petroleum pipeline right-of-ways and curbing rampant vandalism.
The forum brought together community leaders, pipeline agencies, and emergency responders for candid discussions on vandalism challenges and proactive prevention measures.
Participants highlighted the need for robust community partnerships to avert disasters.
“NEMA Lagos Operations Office Participates in Stakeholders’ Engagement on Petroleum Pipeline Right-of-Way and Vandalism in Imosan LCDA,” NEMA stated in a statement on Wednesday, underscoring their commitment.
Stakeholders stressed collaboration with host communities and Community Development Associations (CDAs), affirming that “community involvement remains critical to reducing pipeline-related disasters across Lagos State.”
Mosan-Okunola LCDA Chairperson, Opeyemi Adunni Akindele, praised the initiative, saying her area “hosts a significant portion of petroleum pipelines in the state.”
She called on residents to “promptly report suspected cases of pipeline vandalism to relevant authorities.”
Attendees included NEMA, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Staff Commission, and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
