The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has stepped in to support victims of the recent flooding in Kaduna State, rescuing two elderly individuals trapped following a building collapse and providing essential relief items to displaced residents.

A statement on the NEMA X handle, stressed that the operations were conducted in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), the Red Cross, the Federal and State Fire Services, and other stakeholders.

An elderly man was rescued at Bashama Road, Tudun Wada, while an elderly woman was saved at Kigo Road in Kaduna North Local Government Area.

The woman was later reunited with her relatives at Kabala Costain.

The statement described that the flooding, triggered by intense rainfall has displaced hundreds of residents and destroyed numerous homes. Communities along River Kaduna and its tributaries, including Kigo Road, Bashama Road, Kinkinau, Malali, Ramat Road, and Rafin Guza, are among the hardest hit.

Hundreds of displaced residents, particularly from Tudun Wada, are taking shelter at a temporary camp at the Arc. Namadi Sambo Skills Acquisition Centre near the Children’s Hospital, Tudun Wada.

The camp primarily hosts women, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, children, and persons with disabilities. NEMA has provided emergency relief items such as mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets to support the victims.

Malam Suleiman Mohammed, Head of NEMA Kaduna Operations, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to coordinating resources with relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of the disaster and ensure timely humanitarian support for affected persons.
