A joint team comprising the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Sokoto Operations Office, the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and local community members conducted an immediate assessment of the rain and windstorm events in Kebbi State.
The assessment as revealed in a statement by NEMA on Wednesday, was led by the Head of Operations for NEMA, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, while the SEMA Chairman handled the state-level response coordination.
The evaluation included 12 communities within the Suru and Shanga Local Government Areas.
The rainstorms, which occurred on April 9th, 14th, and 16th, caused widespread destruction—tearing off rooftops, toppling walls and fences, and collapsing residential buildings. Household items, including food supplies, beverages, furniture, and clothing, were significantly damaged, Dailyeconomy reports.
However, NEMA confirmed that 3,000 people were affected, with many displaced and currently staying with friends and relatives.
The statement reads partly, “During the visit, it was observed that some affected residents had begun partial repairs on their homes to cope with the situation.”
