The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Sokoto Operation Office, alongside the State Social Organization (SOO), has carried out a thorough assessment of the damage caused by a recent rainstorm that swept through communities in Gwadabawa and Illela Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

This was made known in a statement shared on NEMA X handle on Sunday.

The unexpected storm resulted in severe destruction across several communities, with numerous homes suffering extensive damage.

Residents reported rooftops being completely blown off, walls collapsing, and entire houses—especially those constructed from clay—being razed.

Fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded. However, some community members sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“While some affected persons have since partially rehabilitated their structures to sustain their lives, others are still taking shelter with friends and relatives. This is due to the magnitude of the damage to their houses,” NEMA said in the statement.
