Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has underscored the necessity for immediate reform within the WTO, highlighting the crucial role of political will and commitment from foreign affairs ministers who also handle foreign trade.
In a post on X, she stated, “At the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting on the sidelines of #UNGA, I argued the urgency of WTO reform and the need for political will and ownership from Foreign Affairs Ministers, many of whom also oversee Foreign Trade.
“Thanks to the many G20 members and invited countries who stated their strong support for the WTO. Grateful to South Africa, President #CyrilRamaphosa, and #RonaldLamola for the invitation.”
