Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has extended warm felicitations to his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary on Friday.

In a statement signed by Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Tuggar hailed the milestone as a “historic” event commemorating Ghana’s freedom from colonial rule on March 6, 1957.

He noted it as “a defining moment in Africa’s liberation movement, inspiring generations of African nations including Nigeria to pursue sovereignty, dignity, and self-determination.”

The statement emphasised the strong bilateral ties between the two nations, rooted in “common historical experiences, cultural affinity, and shared aspirations for peace, prosperity, and African unity.”

It highlighted collaboration in ECOWAS, the African Union, and the UN, spanning trade, education, energy, defense, and cultural exchanges.

Nigeria praised Ghana’s contributions to democratic governance and regional stability, including joint peacekeeping and mediation efforts.

Tuggar commended Ghana’s celebrations under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” recognising the “resilience, creativity, and determination of the Ghanaian people.”

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening relations through “expanded economic cooperation, enhanced diplomatic consultation, and deeper cultural and educational exchanges,” expressing confidence in the “longstanding partnership between Abuja and Accra.”

The statement concluded with best wishes for Ghana’s “continued peace, democratic consolidation, and sustainable development.”
