Nigeria leads Global South charge for financial reform at G-24 meeting

Nigeria positioned itself as a vanguard for the Global South at the G-24 Technical Group Meeting 2026, pushing aggressively for reforms in the global financial system, regional integration, and equitable climate finance.
The Ministry of Finance released a statement on Friday highlighting the leadership of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
“Nigeria stands at the forefront of a united Global South,” the statement stated, emphasising a proactive stance amid global economic challenges.
Edun championed key priorities during the meeting, including “reforming the global financial architecture to accelerating regional integration and climate finance equity.”
The ministry underscored the urgency of these efforts, stating, “The message is clear: resilience requires coordinated action at both global and national levels.”
