Nigeria meets World Bank to tackle poverty, promote inclusiveness

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, headed the Nigerian delegation in a crucial meeting with the World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, on Friday, 17 October 2025.
The discussions according to a statement obtained from CBN on Saturday centered on efforts to reduce poverty and enhance policies that support inclusiveness and sustainable development in Nigeria.
In attendance from Nigeria were key officials including the Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite; the CBN Deputy Governor (Economic Policy), Dr Muhammed Sani Abdullahi; the Special Adviser to the President on Finance and the Economy, Sanyade Okoli; and the Executive Director of Africa Group 3 Constituency, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed.
The CBN statement highlighted the focus of the meeting, “The discussions focused on reducing poverty and promoting inclusiveness and sustainable policies in Nigeria.”
